Photo Booth vs Magic Selfie Mirror – Which One’s Right for Your Event?

Updated: Apr 18, 2025

Running a multi-service events business means I get asked a lot of questions — and one of the most common is, “What’s better for my wedding or party: a Photo Booth or a Magic Selfie Mirror?”

The Photo Booth has become just as essential as a DJ at modern parties. But now, the Magic Selfie Mirror has burst onto the scene and is already making waves in the wedding world. So, which one should you choose? Is there much of a difference? Let’s break it down and help you decide.

The Classic Photo Booth

You might be surprised to learn that the photo booth was first invented in 1889, but it wasn’t until 1925 that it became a public favourite. Fast forward to around 2005, and the booth was reborn as a must-have party feature — and it’s been a hit ever since.

Why do people love it? Because getting inside a booth with your friends, picking out silly props, and capturing a fun, goofy photo is irresistible — even for those who claim they hate photos!

Modern booths now come with green screen tech, filters, and even social media upload options. What I really like is the privacy it offers — you’re tucked away from the crowd, free to pull faces, laugh, and pose without an audience. It also means no photobombers in the background ruining your shots.

Plus, the green screen allows you to choose any background you like. One minute you're at your cousin’s wedding, and the next you’ve got a souvenir snap of you and your mates “in Egypt”!

A couple of things to keep in mind:

  • Booths usually fit 4–5 people max — so no epic group shots.

  • They take longer to set up, so choosing the right supplier is key. The last thing you want is someone assembling it during your drinks reception, half-dressed and in full view!

  • Some booths, especially inflatable ones, can be a bit of an eyesore once set up. Make sure the style matches your décor and vibe.

The Magic Selfie Mirror

When I first saw the mirror, I knew it would be a game-changer. I wasn’t thrilled — mainly because I realised I’d have to buy one (and trust me, they’re not cheap!). But I’m glad I did.

At first, I thought it was just a photo booth without the enclosure. Where’s the fun in that? But how wrong I was.

The mirror looks great — a stylish frame that blends in beautifully with any event décor. It’s also super quick to set up, so there’s no fuss or delay.

But the real magic? Its interactive personality. The mirror talks to guests, makes them laugh, teases them, and even gives posing instructions. It turns taking a photo into an experience.

There’s no green screen, but you can sign your name on the photos, giving them a lovely personal touch.

So, Which One Should You Choose?

Honestly? I love both.

Pricing varies by supplier. At my business, we charge a little more for the booth as it takes longer to set up and break down. But because the Magic Selfie Mirror is a newer product, many companies are pricing it higher right now.

Either way, you won’t be disappointed. Both options add fun, interaction, and memorable moments to any event.
